If a track like ‘Magic’ is anything to go by then Jordan Mackampa’s upcoming album, Foreigner, is going to be a major turning point for this Coventry-born, Congolese-British artist. While his 2017 EP, Tales From The Broken, stayed true to Mackampa’s core as a singer and songwriter, always with his trusty guitar and sincere storytelling, we’re hearing a new side to this troubadour. ‘Magic’ incorporates upbeat soul harmonies, sun-soaked Latin guitar rhythms, a glorious brass section, and layers of natural percussion such as hand claps and shakers. Speaking about this apparent sonic evolution, Mackampa tells us that "This is a bossa nova/samba/ infused feel good kinda track about when you can’t get someone off your mind. You’ve had one taste and you want more!” The whole track is non-stop action, which is have you grooving along from start to finish.
